Last week in bitcoin (Nov 24 - 30)
Highlights from the bitcoin developer ecosystem...
Hi Insiders. This is Tuma, open-source reporter from the Insider Edition. I spent 10+ hours in open-source developer calls in the Bitcoin ecosystem last week. Here is what caught my eye:
v1.6.0 of the Stratum protocol and v0.1.0 of Sv2 Applications are officially out.
During the weekly call, on Tuesday 25th, Stratum V2 developers announced that both the latest versions for the Stratum protocol and Sv2 Applications were ready to be released. Stratum library v1.6.0 was then released on Wednesday 26th, while sv2-apps v0.1.0 the day after, on Thursday 27th.
v1.6.0, which contains updates to the low-level protocol crates, adds support for Sv2 Extensions through the
extensions_sv2crate, which provides message types and utilities for Sv2 protocol extensions. It also deprecates many crates, such asbinary_codec_sv2,roles_logic_sv2andnetwork_helpers_sv2. Notably, this is the first release actively tested through fuzzing.v0.1.0, which contains the application-level crates, is the first official release from the sv2-apps repository after the split. Notably, this release adds native support for Bitcoin Core v30 through the
bitcoin_core_sv2crate and adds Docker support to simplify cross-platform deployment for the different applications.
v25.12 release candidate of core-lightning is available, bringing new functionalities and performance optimizations.
During the developers call, on Monday 24th, core-lightning contributor Madeline announced that the first release candidate for the latest version of the Lightning implementation was out. At the time of writing, two more release candidates have been created.
v25.12, which has been named “Boltz’s Seamless Upgrade Experience”, comes with experimental support for LSPS Level 2 specifications, BIP-39 12-word phrase for new nodes, improvement to xpay plugin, and a stricter compliance to the BOLTs splicing specifications.
On the developers’ side, many improvements have been pushed to optimize performances. Notably, many speedups for larger nodes have been added to prevent freezes under high load. For a full description of the changes refer to changelog.
PR7988 in Fedimint aims to add full support for working with Lightning Addresses.
During the weekly call, on Monday 24th, Fedimint developers discussed PR7988. The goal of this PR, which is still under active development, is to provide full support for Lightning Addresses to the protocol.
PR7988 is implementing full LNURL Lightning Address resolution, including metadata extraction and validation of amount and comments. This functionalities will then be exposed to fedimint-sdk, a WebAssembly-powered Fedimint client for the browser.
